What could you do in THE TENT?
Lowther’s newest, temporary space is a marquee offering an alternative programme of events and activities, whilst providing a free space for community groups to connect. The Tent’s programming spans live music, food nights, family and young person events, theatre performances and much more.
Tim Lince, Lowther’s CEO/Artistic Director, said:
“The Tent has been a fantastic way for us to engage with a variety of local community groups. The programme we’ve put together clearly highlights the need for such spaces.”
Audiences can expect a varied programme of events and activities ranging from free to paid. These include performances from local choirs such as Electric Pink Voices, an LGBTQ+ choir based in Blackpool, to lettering workshops with local calligraphy artists Mellor & Rose.
Music, Music, Everywhere
Other events include, but are not limited to:
Freckleton Brass Band – This free concert will bring the vibrant sounds of a brand band to Lowther’s historic gardens.
St Annes Rock Choir – This pioneering, contemporary choir of the UK remains unique, with over 33,000 members participating in approximately 400 local communities. It offers all ages an alternative experience to the traditional classical or community choir, introducing members to feel-good pop, rock and chart songs.
Simon Clarke – welcome the sounds of the famous Swinging 60’s and super 70s music era! International entertainer and multi-instrumentalist Simon Clarke, ex-band member of Freddie and the Dreamers, comes to The Tent with such hits as I’m Telling You Now and You Were Made For Me.
Electric Pink Voice – The Fylde’s newest choir will be coming together in The Tent to sing pop favourites and their specially-commissioned song. Founded in Blackpool in 2022 as an inclusive, safe space for the LGBTQ+ community and its allies to sing and make music. The 20-strong group has already performed in venues across the resort, including several Pride celebrations.
Mini-maritime Festival – Expect sea shanties, stories and music to celebrate and support the local maritime scene. This event will feature The Lytham St Annes Shanty Crew, the Morecambe Mizzen Shanty Crew and more.
To be used as Educational Hub
The Fylde Rangers – Using The Tent as a base, the Fylde Rangers will be taking children aged 4+ around the gardens for a variety of activities to celebrate
Summer Outdoor Theatre Workshops
World Food Nights from various cuisines around the world including England, Spain, France, Greek and Ukraine. (You have to guess what the English Night food is!)
Yoga and Fitness
Lytham Heritage Exhibition
and whatever else you can think of……………………………………………
FREE for ALL
For community groups, the 100-seat The Tent is free to hire and use, with additional free technical and marketing support from The Lowther Pavilion Theatre & Gardens.
“When planning this project, access was a key part of The Tent for us. We wanted to ensure all groups had a fair chance of using the space no matter what budgets they typically work with. By not charging, we’ve put together an exciting programme of events ranging from rehearsals, performances, weekly meet-ups and more. Once construction on our new Education Centre & Studio Theatre is complete, we’ll be able to hit the ground running thanks to the work we’ve done on The Tent.”
