A Day in the Life of Jakkie Hatton
Wed 7 May 2014: I am on call 24/7 although not often in the small hours. Today a text came through from honeymoon clients who wanted me to process their check in for flights from Barbados to New York (they were struggling). So I did this and emailed their boarding passes.
Because You’re Special
I’d contacted the hotel a few days before arrival into Barbados and they were thrilled with an upgraded room on arrival – an email can work wonders for honeymoon clients but I also email hotels before clients arrival to say ‘special clients’ are on their way, as all my clients are ‘special’.
Anywhere In The World
I turned on my computer first thing and checked emails received overnight as I’m often dealing with the whole world and hence different time zones! All my clients also have my email address and mobile number and can contact me at anytime, at home or abroad.
New client enquiries this morning included Croatia, Canada and Argentina. With a few complex itineries, including internal flights and attraction tickets. Yes, I can do that as well! But I’m just as happy booking a “regular” holiday.
I then speak to a wedding client (they marry in Cyprus this September) who need to get a declaration signed with a solicitor before travel. I gave details regarding this – we have a Weddings Department at Head Office who are experts in this field.
Customer Care Is A Priority
Checking the diary (yes, I still write everything down as well!), I text or phone several clients who have just returned from holiday to see how it went and if there was anything I could have done to enhance their experience. I’m constantly looking at ways to improve.
I take client calls all day: some want to add tours and private transfers to their bookings and some like to pay in instalments. You can pay on our website or over the phone with myself at a time that’s convenient for you.
I diary into my evening to catch up with clients who cannot call me during the day, this really is a ‘Martini’ job – you can contact me any time, any place! I often visit clients at home who would like to see brochures and meet up face to face, especially honeymoon couples.
I also hand deliver your tickets if you live within a reasonable distance from Lytham. Other than that I am a daily visitor to the Post Office in Park Street, they know me SO well now.
I browse several times a day the Travel Counsellors on line message board which is great idea. Travel Counsellors can post and answer questions about destinations, recommended hotels, or indeed anything travel related. There is always someone that can answer a query.
