I am fairly “spiritual” and LOVE anything “new age” and “alternative”, so I know about Reiki and have reached Level 2 of training myself, but have recently realised some people don’t actually know what it is.
…is an original method of healing, developed in Japan early in the 20th century. The Japanese word Reiki means ‘Universal Energy’, the energy that flows through all living things and is vital to well-being.
It promotes relaxation and encourages the body into a balanced state of well-being. It is said to help release physical, emotional and mental blockages. A real holistic experience.
A Reiki session involves a trained therapist putting their hands in different positions either on or above the body over the seven “chakra” points.
This healing energy is then said to flow from the therapist to the patient, giving them what he or she needs and it’s different for each individual!
The theory is, that Reiki flows through the areas where negative energy exists and replaces it with positive energy. Allowing your life energy to flow freely again.
My Recent Experience
Reiki Michael, a local therapist who became a Reiki healer when his wife was diagnosed with osteoarthritis, has been healing since 2005 but only recently in 2014 as his full time calling.
I know Michael’s family and we had interaction via social media. Up until a couple of months ago we had not met face to face, but when we did I just knew he was a positive force but in a calming way.
The session took place in the Therapy room of Michael’s home, and a warm welcoming space it was. It smelt divine and the relaxing “tinkly” music added to the experience.
I have had Reiki healing before so I know what to expect. What I didn’t expect was the feeling of floating and warmth. I cannot actually remember whether he placed his hands on me, apart from my feet. Some therapists do and some just “hover” over your chakra points.
I was in a deeply relaxed state and for some reason was visualising blue liquid coursing through my body with gold sparkles in it …..almost like shaking a snow globe. I’m not sure if I did fall asleep and was dreaming, but later Michael assured me that if I did, I didn’t snore!! They say that a Reiki session can have the regenerative effect of 3 – 4 hours sleep.
How did I feel?
I wasn’t stressed as such, but I don’t sleep particularly well. Plus I have a few age related aches and pains. That night I had the best sleep I have had for ages and definitely felt less achy. But the biggest effect was the positivity I had next day to tackle jobs I had been putting off for weeks.
Is it all in the mind, and did it work because I thought it would? Honest answer? Well two:
1/ I don’t know
2/ I don’t care, I just felt great
And it made me get round to doing this write up!
