Love for Italy –
Prosecco has been around since the Roman times, but for Tim and Izzy their Prosecco van dream started in 2014 on one of their many visits to Italy. In 2014 Tim & Izzy visited Lake Garda, a beautiful northern town Malcesine, they spent most of their days chatting to locals, and even taking rides in land owners Piaggio Ape 50 vans – in fact it was hard to get Izzy out of the vans!
They also enjoyed lots of local Prosecco, and kept wondered how they could put these two things together.. That year, on Christmas Eve Tim proposed, and on boxing Day, drove straight back out to Italy with their 2 Dachshunds Kiki and Ernie to spend the New Year in favourite spot and book their dream day…all the while still researching their Prosecco van ideas.
In 2015 they were married in a small ceremony in a beautiful medieval castle , in the region where the Glera grape is produced, which until 2009 was actually called the Prosecco grape!
Dreams put on Hold?
After a busy year of planning a wedding and both working in busy 45 hour a week industries they had put their dream plan on hold. Tim had been working for the family businesses selling Italian products here in the UK, along with Izzy working full time and running a handful of small businesses. Time soon flew by and the dream of a Prosecco Van idea was still to come true..
In early 2016 Tim became very ill, he was diagnosed with IBD (Inflammatory bowel disease), and they found that the life changing chronic disease, was going to mean certain changes to their lives. With the wonderful help of the fantastic staff in the Gastroenterology unit at Victoria Hospital, and the caring and informative advice from the outstanding Chrones and Colitis Organisation, they made a plan to help reduce the stress and work towards creating something that they loved. Despite the awful news, this gave them the extra motivation to achieve what they set out to do. The Prosecco van was now going to become a reality and the dream plan was put into action.
Tim & Izzy worked closely with a team, who assisted in importing their little van from Italy and converted it into the Prosecco bar they always wanted. The van has been fitted with a state of the art cooling system, which cools the kegs of frizzante perfectly, giving customers a heavenly chilled flute of fizz. After taking some cocktail master classes and experimenting (alot!) with local producers and fabulous gins, they have also created a delicious fizz-cocktails menu, including a mouth watering Elderflower Gin and fizz cocktail..
The name – Lytham Fizz Co – well it couldn’t have been called anything else! After having lived in Lytham for many years they wouldn’t want to live anywhere else – well maybe Italy!! They LOVE Lytham, & can often be found eating, drinking and shopping locally.
Prosecco & Frizzante
Did you know that Prosecco and Italian Frizzante are the same thing!?..Italian law states that if Prosecco is served from anything over a 3 litre glass bottle it has to be called ‘Frizzante’, despite it being the same product. So on the pumps the badges read ‘Frizzante’ and the bottles say ‘Prosecco. It is a slightly unusual Italian law – but its not the only strange one they have! If they didn’t adhere to this they would be given a 20,000 Euro fine!
