The LSA Shanty Crew are raising money on behalf of the £275,000 appeal to bring the latest Shannon class lifeboat and Supacat Launch and Recovery Vehicle to Lytham St Annes. Doors open at 6.45. Tickets available at RNLI shops at St Annes and Lytham or on the door.
The Shanty Crew have sung at various charity events across the Fylde, as well as selling out two nights running in the wonderful setting of the RNLI museum at last summer’s Lytham Festival. Formed just two years ago and sing traditional sea shanties* and their own compositions
There are also Free live rehearsals held regularly on Monday nights at the boathouses.
*Shanties are the work songs that were used on the square-rigged ships of the Age of Sail. Their rhythms coordinated the efforts of many sailors hauling on lines. Much loved by modern sailors and folk musicians, they are rarely used as work songs today. This is because modern rigging doesn’t require many people to be working in the same rhythm for long periods.
